Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)
We would like to offer you a warm welcome to our Early Years Setting at Lexden Primary School and Nursery.
The Early Years team are looking forward to getting to know, and working in partnership with, you and your children during their time with us.
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) applies to children from birth to five years and sets the standard for their care, learning and development during this time. At Lexden Primary School and Nursery our EYFS setting comprises of:
- a 26-place Nursery class, offering both full and part-time sessions for three and four year olds
- a 30-place Reception class, providing full-time early education for children in the academic year in which they turn five years old
At Lexden we believe that children learn best through play, exploration, and investigation. We value positive and high-quality relationships to best support your child’s learning and development within a creative, challenging, and warm environment. The children will have fun exploring their interests in both the inside and outside classrooms, as well as in our on-site wild-life area. Our careful planning, enriching adult interactions, and engaging environment will be responsive to your child’s changing needs across the year to help give them the best start to school possible. We encourage and teach the children how to be responsible, respectful, and independent when learning through child-initiated activities and engaging with wider continuous provision.
The children further develop their love of learning in Nursery and Reception through daily reading, phonics, and maths sessions.
More information about our setting can be found in our Early Years Policy or on our Early Years class pages for Nursery and Reception.

Tapestry
In Nursery and Reception we use Tapestry as an assessment tool to support, monitor, and share your child's learning and development. Using your secure log on you will be able to view observations of what your child has been learning at school, comment and feed into this process, as well as upload observations of learning from home.
Please speak to your child's class teacher if you have any questions about Tapestry or are unable to access your log on.
